Thankful to all parties that stood together as a single unit in the All-party Meeting convened by the Government of Tamil Nadu, setting aside the political differences to send a clear and uncompromising message on the unjust #Delimitation initiative.

The resolutions passed today make Tamil Nadu’s stand loud and clear:

🔹 The Union Government must abandon any move to reduce, either absolutely or in percentage terms, Tamil Nadu’s current parliamentary representation in any form. We will not accept any punishment for acting in the national interest by successfully controlling population growth.

🔹 The Hon’ble Prime Minister must give an unequivocal assurance in Parliament that the 1971 population-based seat allocation will be extended for another 30 years, and a constitutional amendment must be passed to ensure this.

🔹 If parliamentary seats are increased, Tamil Nadu’s representation must rise proportionally as per the existing framework. No manipulation or dilution of our rightful political voice will be acceptable. Tamil Nadu’s existing percentage of seats, 7.18 per cent of the total, must not be reduced under any circumstances.

🔹 Tamil Nadu is not against delimitation, but it cannot and will not allow it to be a disguised weapon against progressive states.

🔹 All political parties (with MPs in South Indian States) will be approached to form a Joint Action Committee, to immediately take up this just cause as a battle in every forum and mobilise all necessary support.

Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound gratitude to political parties across Tamil Nadu that set aside partisan rivalries to forge an unprecedented unanimous coalition against proposed parliamentary delimitation formulas. Convening an all-party consultation at the state secretariat, Stalin commended leaders for presenting a resolute, unified defense of Tamil Nadu's constitutional representation, sending a decisive message to the Union government regarding regional democratic rights.

The conference adopted comprehensive resolutions demanding that the Union administration immediately abandon any plan to decrease Tamil Nadu's current parliamentary share, either in absolute numbers or percentage terms. The parties demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi provide a binding parliamentary guarantee extending the 1971 census seat allocation formula for an additional thirty years through a formal constitutional amendment. The resolution emphasized that if total parliamentary seats are expanded, Tamil Nadu's representation must increase proportionally to preserve its 7.18 percent national legislative share.

Stalin announced that representatives from all participating parties will engage regional political organizations throughout southern India to establish a Joint Action Committee. He concluded that Tamil Nadu will mobilize all legal and democratic platforms to defeat legislative marginalization.
