Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin launched a sharp condemnation against Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, criticizing remarks that characterized Tamil Nadu members of parliament as uncivilized during debates over central funding. Stalin declared that withholding statutory education funds penalizes the state's students and insults the electorate, demanding to know whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi endorses such unparliamentary conduct.
Stalin highlighted that the Union Education Ministry rejected Tamil Nadu's modified PM SHRI school memorandum of understanding solely because the state government refused to accept the National Education Policy and its three-language formula. He asserted that the state operates strictly according to public sentiment rather than directives issued from Nagpur, underscoring that no external authority can compel Tamil Nadu into adopting unwanted educational mandates.
The Chief Minister demanded an unambiguous answer regarding whether the Union government will release tax revenues collected from Tamil Nadu to support state education programs. Stalin emphasized that educational grants represent the constitutional entitlement of local students, affirming that Tamil Nadu will resist central blackmail over policy autonomy. He reiterated that state leaders will continue asserting regional rights against arbitrary administrative interference.
