Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced comprehensive statewide public demonstrations scheduled for March 29 to protest the Union Bharatiya Janata Party government's refusal to disburse pending rural employment wages. Stalin detailed the state government's sustained administrative efforts, noting that he had addressed formal communications, conducted personal delegations, and repeatedly raised the wage crisis in both houses of Parliament. Despite these representations, the Union government has adamantly withheld funds owed to hundreds of thousands of rural labourers.
Stalin condemned the central government's callous indifference toward impoverished village families who depend on daily wage labour under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme for basic subsistence. He stressed that depriving impoverished citizens of their hard-earned compensation amounts to severe economic exploitation that violates statutory guarantees. The Chief Minister stated that when administrative remedies fail to move a rigid central administration, organized democratic mobilization remains the only effective course of action.
Calling upon agricultural workers, trade unionists, and DMK cadre to assemble at union offices across the state, Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will raise an unyielding collective voice in the public court, compelling New Delhi to concede the rightful wages of working people.
