Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced fresh state government initiatives and financial assistance packages to protect the livelihoods of coastal fishing communities facing harassment in traditional waters. Stalin pointed out that the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had unanimously adopted a resolution on April 2, 2025, urging the Union government to resolve recurring maritime crises and safeguard fishermen. He regretted that central authorities have remained silent and indifferent despite repeated state appeals.

The Chief Minister stressed that traditional fishermen endure hazardous conditions at sea, risking life and livelihood daily while navigating contested maritime boundaries. He asserted that fishers from Tamil Nadu are Indian citizens whose security and economic stability demand urgent diplomatic intervention from New Delhi. Stalin announced targeted welfare enhancements, boat repair subsidies, and direct financial relief for families affected by maritime detentions and vessel confiscations by foreign naval forces.

Stalin urged the Union government to recognize its sovereign responsibility toward southern fishermen and initiate diplomatic talks with Sri Lanka. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will consistently deploy state resources and administrative protections to safeguard the welfare and dignity of its coastal communities.
