Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin sharply criticized the Union government following an increase in domestic cooking gas cylinder prices, characterizing the decision as a severe blow to working-class household budgets. Stalin pointed out that while international crude oil prices had fallen significantly, the central government refused to pass on commensurate price reductions to consumers on petrol and diesel. He condemned the timing of the LPG cylinder price hike as an insensitive administrative measure that exacerbates inflation.
The Chief Minister accused the central ruling party of engaging in deceptive pricing maneuvers by steepening fuel tariffs between elections and announcing token reductions only when state polls approach. He stated that working families are enduring acute economic distress under escalating living costs while public sector revenues are captured without adequate public relief. Stalin stressed that accessible domestic energy constitutes an essential basic necessity rather than a revenue-generating commodity for the central exchequer.
Stalin demanded that the Union government immediately withdraw the cooking gas price hike without awaiting future election schedules. He urged central authorities to prioritize citizen welfare and provide immediate economic respite to rural and urban consumers across the country.
