Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reiterated his administration's resolute determination to secure statutory exemption from the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for state medical aspirants. Stalin recalled that the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly had twice passed unanimous bills seeking exemption to protect rural and underprivileged students from exclusionary testing criteria. He criticized the state governor for acting as an administrative roadblock by stalling constitutional assent to bills approved by elected representatives.

Referencing recent Supreme Court observations regarding gubernatorial delays, the Chief Minister affirmed that the state government will vigorously pursue its judicial appeals to abolish NEET in Tamil Nadu. He drew an analogy pointing out that targeting critics rather than rectifying structural inequities in medical entrance testing serves only to perpetuate unfair educational barriers. Stalin stated that standard entrance exams ignore disparities in regional schooling infrastructure and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Stalin called upon students and parents to remain confident while the government prosecutes this legal and political fight. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will persist in the courts and public forums until equitable access to medical education is restored for all deserving students.
