Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wrote to Union External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, expressing deep concern over the abrupt reduction in India's private Hajj pilgrimage quota. Stalin highlighted that the sudden quota curtailment has caused profound distress and acute anxiety among thousands of prospective pilgrims who made extensive financial and logistical arrangements. He noted that community members and pilgrimage operators had appealed for immediate governmental intervention to restore original allocations.

The Chief Minister urged the Union government to engage immediately with Saudi Arabian diplomatic authorities to secure an expeditious and equitable resolution. He pointed out that private tour operators cater to a significant segment of pilgrims from Tamil Nadu and across India who rely on timely administrative clearances to fulfill their religious obligations. Stalin emphasized that administrative oversights or diplomatic delays should not jeopardize the spiritual aspirations of elderly citizens and first-time applicants.

Stalin called upon the Ministry of External Affairs to treat the issue with diplomatic urgency and humanitarian sensitivity. He reaffirmed that the Tamil Nadu government remains actively committed to representing minority welfare concerns and facilitating hassle-free pilgrimage arrangements for all affected communities.
