I thank the Hon’ble Supreme Court for hearing the DMK’s petition challenging the #WaqfAmendmentAct, 2025, along with other petitions and for passing an interim order that safeguards Waqf properties and restrains the appointment of non-Muslims to Waqf Boards and Councils.
This malafide Amendment Act was enacted by the Union Government with the sole intent of targeting the Muslim community, by interfering in the administration of their charitable endowments and core religious practices.
Happy that the judicial review has flagged many regressive provisions of the Act, as highlighted by us. We will leave no stone unturned to defend the constitutional rights of our minority brethren!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound satisfaction with the Supreme Court of India's interim order regarding the controversial Waqf Amendment Act, 2025. Acting on petitions filed by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and other organizations, the apex court issued crucial directions safeguarding Waqf properties and restraining the induction of non-Muslim members into Waqf boards and councils. Stalin thanked the judiciary for protecting minority interests against unilateral legislative overreach by the Union government.
Stalin characterized the contested amendment as a malafide legislative intervention enacted specifically to interfere with the religious rights and internal administration of Muslim charitable endowments. He maintained that judicial scrutiny had properly validated the core objections raised by the DMK and legal advocates, exposing regressive provisions that undermined constitutional protections. The Chief Minister affirmed that his administration remains steadfast in shielding religious minorities from legislative marginalization and executive overreach.
Reaffirming the state's legal strategy, Stalin declared that Tamil Nadu will persist with constitutional appeals to defend religious autonomy. He commended the party's legal wing for mounting a prompt judicial challenge against statutory intrusions that threaten India's secular fabric.
