What began as a humble journey under the guidance of Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy, the pioneering founder of the Adyar Cancer Institute, blossomed into an institution of extraordinary service as Dr. V. Shanta became a towering figure in the field of oncology.
Today, I unveiled Dr. Shantha's statue and museum at the very place where she devoted her entire life to serving the needy patients. The museum, filled with her belongings and ideals, left me deeply moved and inspired.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled a commemorative bronze statue and a dedicated museum celebrating the life and contributions of legendary oncologist Dr. V. Shanta at the Adyar Cancer Institute in Chennai. Chronicling the institute's remarkable journey, Stalin recalled how Dr. Muthulakshmi Reddy founded the pioneering cancer hospital with visionary zeal, and how Dr. Shanta devoted her entire lifetime to transforming it into an internationally recognized oncology center serving impoverished patients. The newly established museum preserves Dr. Shanta's personal memorabilia, research notes, and humanitarian philosophy.
The Chief Minister recounted his emotional walkthrough of the museum, noting that Dr. Shanta's selfless service, frugal lifestyle, and clinical empathy left him deeply inspired. Quoting classical Thirukkural couplets praising righteous benefactors who live entirely for public good, Stalin observed that noble medical pioneers continue to live forever in the grateful hearts of the people. Under Dr. Shanta's leadership, the Adyar Cancer Institute pioneered subsidized cancer therapeutics, ensuring that no patient was denied advanced medical treatment due to financial poverty.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model administration remains deeply dedicated to expanding affordable oncology care and tertiary healthcare across Tamil Nadu.
