Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered a historic announcement in the state legislative assembly, designating the birth anniversary of revolutionary poet Pavendhar Bharathidasan as the commencement of annual statewide Tamil Week celebrations. Quoting Bharathidasan's famous verses asserting uncompromising linguistic dignity, Stalin emphasized that the festival aims to awaken linguistic self-respect, cultural pride, and progressive social values among contemporary students and youth. The state government will sponsor literary symposiums, elocution debates, and artistic performances across colleges, schools, and cultural academies.
The Chief Minister noted that Bharathidasan's fiery literary contributions provided the ideological fuel for the Dravidian movement, championing women's education, caste eradication, and working-class liberation. By institutionalizing Tamil Week celebrations through official legislative sanction, the administration ensures that younger generations connect deeply with rationalist Tamil literary heritage. Stalin stressed that language preservation must actively align with progressive societal advancement and egalitarian consciousness rather than insular traditionalism.
Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravidian Model government remains deeply committed to immortalizing revolutionary literary figures who defended Tamil identity and human dignity. He called upon academic institutions and cultural bodies to make Tamil Week celebrations vibrant public festivals of progressive thought.
