Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted an extensive inspection of the newly established Nilgiris Government Medical College Hospital, situated across a 25-acre campus in Udhagamandalam. Originally inaugurated on April 6, the modern tertiary healthcare institution was established to ensure that remote hill populations, indigenous tribal communities, and tea estate workers access advanced medical treatment without traveling to plains cities like Coimbatore. During his tour, Stalin inspected clinical departments, intensive care wards, diagnostic laboratories, and interacted warmly with enrolled medical students.
The Chief Minister expressed profound pride in observing that the medical college hospital now treats more than a thousand outpatients daily, providing free emergency, pediatric, and surgical care. By stationing resident specialist physicians and equipping the facility with modern medical machinery, the state government has bridged long-standing geographical disparities in mountain healthcare. Stalin encouraged medical students to serve rural communities with compassion and professional integrity upon graduating.
Stalin affirmed that establishing top-tier medical colleges in every district embodies the egalitarian vision of the Dravidian Model. He reaffirmed his government's resolve to strengthen public health infrastructure across all hill districts.
