The Union BJP Government is attempting to overturn the Supreme Court’s landmark verdict that upheld the rights of elected State Governments against obstructive Governors.
I have urged all non-BJP States and regional parties to unite in this crucial legal battle to protect federalism and preserve the Constitution’s basic structure.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a passionate national appeal urging non-BJP Chief Ministers and regional parties to unite in a coordinated legal fight to defend constitutional federalism. His call followed moves by the Union government seeking to circumvent a landmark Supreme Court judgment that established clear boundaries against gubernatorial obstructionism. The apex court's historic ruling had affirmed the supremacy of elected state legislatures over appointed Governors who indefinitely withhold assent to duly enacted legislation.
Stalin directly reached out to Chief Ministers across opposition-ruled states, including West Bengal, Punjab, Karnataka, Telangana, Kerala, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Jammu and Kashmir. He warned that attempts to overturn the court's verdict through executive references threaten the basic structure of the Constitution and reduce state autonomy to a hollow shell. By orchestrating endless delays in legislative approval, appointed Governors deliberately undermine the democratic will expressed by voters.
The Chief Minister asserted that Tamil Nadu will fearlessly lead the democratic and constitutional challenge to preserve state autonomy and cooperative federalism. He declared that united action across states remains essential to protecting federal democracy from centralized executive overreach.
