Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a newly constructed, state-of-the-art residential hostel building at the historic Queen Mary's College in Chennai, fulfilling an assurance he gave students during their convocation in November 2022. Constructed with modern amenities to accommodate 455 undergraduate and postgraduate students, the new on-campus hostel provides secure, comfortable, and affordable living quarters for young women pursuing higher education from rural and distant districts. Stalin toured the residential facilities and held a warm interactive dialogue with the enrolled hostellers.
Reflecting on the historic campus, the Chief Minister recalled his past participation in sit-in protests alongside brave college students when a previous AIADMK government attempted to demolish and relocate the venerable seaside institution. Stalin expressed profound personal fulfillment in returning as Chief Minister to fulfill the students' long-standing infrastructural aspiration on the very same grounds.
Stalin asserted that the Dravidian Model administration stands firmly prepared to allocate any needed resources to advance women's collegiate education and social dignity. He reaffirmed that providing safe housing and quality learning spaces for female students remains central to Tamil Nadu's social transformation.
