Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called for active civic participation in municipal cleanliness, emphasizing that maintaining clean urban environments requires equal responsibility between municipal sanitation workers and individual citizens. He cautioned that indiscriminate littering and irresponsible dumping of non-biodegradable plastics inevitably rebound upon public health and neighborhood well-being. Stalin pointed out that relying solely on sanitation staff to clean, collect, and sort arbitrarily discarded waste is unsustainable for rapidly growing towns and metropolitan areas.
The Chief Minister stressed that achieving public cleanliness on par with developed nations demands basic civic responsibility, particularly segregating biodegradable organic waste from recyclable materials right at the household source. To address urban sanitation holistically, Stalin announced that the state government will soon launch the comprehensive Thooymai Mission across all urban local bodies. The new initiative will coordinate municipal administration, rural development, pollution control boards, and educational institutions to upgrade waste processing infrastructure, modernize mechanization, and foster community awareness.
Stalin affirmed that modern civic sanitation forms the foundation of dignified living and environmental health. He urged citizens to embrace source segregation and partner with civic workers under the Thooymai Mission.
