Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commemorated the birth anniversary of illustrious anti-colonial freedom fighter Vaalukku Veli Ambalam, celebrated statewide as an official government function. Stalin paid homage to the warrior from Sivagangai, widely revered as Thenpandi Singam, for his fearless armed resistance against British colonial forces during the eighteenth century. He recalled that the legendary chieftain fought valiantly alongside revolutionary monarch Rani Velu Nachiyar and the Marudhu Pandiyar brothers, organizing indigenous armed battalions to defend regional sovereignty against foreign imperial subjugation.
Highlighting the state government ongoing initiatives to honor historical anti-colonial heroes, Stalin recalled unveiling a full-length bronze statue of Vaalukku Veli Ambalam at Nagrampatti in Sivagangai district earlier this year. The government designated his birth anniversary as an annual state celebration to ensure that younger generations remain conscious of the immense sacrifices made by local leaders during early resistance movements against British rule. The administration has also restored historical memorial sites and documented local freedom fighters across the southern districts.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian movement draws enduring inspiration from historical struggles for self-determination and regional dignity. He declared that honoring early liberation fighters reinforces modern Tamil identity and constitutional patriotism.
