Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated a state-of-the-art air-conditioned rest lounge designed specifically for gig and platform delivery workers in Anna Nagar, Chennai. Built using contemporary Scandinavian architectural principles, the pioneering public facility provides gig delivery personnel with essential respite between delivery shifts. The pilot lounge is equipped with hygienic restrooms, air-conditioning, dedicated mobile phone charging stations, clean drinking water dispensers, and secure vehicular parking bays. Stalin highlighted that Anna Nagar was selected for the initial phase due to its high concentration of female delivery professionals.
The Chief Minister asserted that pioneering progressive labor welfare measures that other Indian states eventually emulate represents the distinctive governance hallmark of Tamil Nadu. He described the Dravidian Model of administration as providing sheltering shade to those enduring harsh summer heat, a comforting cup of water to the thirsty, and a supportive hand to struggling workers. Gig delivery agents often endure demanding physical conditions and erratic working hours without access to dignified public resting areas.
Stalin affirmed that the government remains deeply committed to institutionalizing labor dignity and occupational safety for informal and platform workers. He indicated that similar welfare lounges will be expanded across urban clusters statewide.
