Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released an interview featuring the Director General of Police, countering misinformation regarding public safety and reaffirming the administration uncompromising stance on law enforcement. Citing official National Crime Records Bureau statistics, Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu consistently records one of the lowest incidence rates nationwide for crimes targeting women and minors. He explained that misleading narratives fail to distinguish between actual crime frequency and increased institutional responsiveness.

Stalin emphasized that higher registration of cases under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act demonstrates growing public trust in police stations rather than worsening crime conditions. When citizens report incidents without hesitation or stigma, law enforcement agencies can apprehend offenders immediately upon their initial transgression, preventing repeated offences and securing swift judicial punishment. The government has modernized police infrastructure and established specialized crime units to facilitate confidential, victim-friendly grievance reporting.

The Chief Minister reiterated the core tenets of his administration policy on crimes against women and children: strict zero tolerance, accelerated investigative timelines, maximum statutory penalties, and zero premature remission. He affirmed that public safety remains an absolute administrative priority.
