Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin countered unfounded political allegations raised by the Union Home Minister, pointing out that state governments contribute the majority share of financial resources for development programmes branded with the Prime Minister name and likeness. Referring to flagship initiatives including the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana housing scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana fisheries plan, and the Jal Jeevan rural drinking water mission, Stalin stressed that state budgetary allocations far exceed central disbursements.
He recalled his remarks delivered at a government function in Salem, comparing the Union government self-congratulatory branding to a popular cinematic trope where one individual takes credit while wearing another person shirt. Stalin cited an analytical investigative report published in The Hindu detailing exact funding splits, demonstrating that Tamil Nadu routinely finances between sixty and seventy percent of total operational costs for these schemes.
Stalin urged the Union government to abandon partisan rhetoric and discontinue unwarranted political attacks while depending on state revenues. He reaffirmed that federal principles require authentic fiscal honesty and mutual respect rather than misleading publicity over shared constitutional development responsibilities.
