Highlighting persistent constitutional obstruction by gubernatorial authorities, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin stated that more than 40 days have elapsed since the State Legislative Assembly passed and transmitted the Kalaignar University Bill to the Governor for formal assent. Stalin remarked that had the Governor granted constitutional approval within an appropriate timeframe, he would have proudly laid the foundation stone for the prestigious university today, accelerating higher education opportunities for regional students.
The Chief Minister pointed out that unelected governors repeatedly stalling bills passed unanimously by elected state legislatures constitutes a severe subversion of constitutional democracy and federalism. He emphasized that the proposed Kalaignar University was envisioned to provide cutting-edge research facilities, multidisciplinary academic programs, and accessible advanced education to students from economically modest backgrounds. Stalin noted that delaying educational legislation directly injures youth welfare and undermines the democratic mandate conferred by millions of voters.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model government will not yield to unconstitutional obstacles created by Raj Bhavan. He reiterated his administration's determination to utilize all legal and constitutional remedies to establish the university and uphold state legislative autonomy.
