Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inspected the ongoing construction of Chennai Metro Rail elevated viaducts passing directly over the iconic Kathipara grade separator in Guindy, reviewing the technical execution of this pioneering infrastructure project. Stalin recalled that former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi originally constructed the multi-tiered Kathipara flyover as an enduring modern symbol of Chennai, and praised engineering teams for now building elevated metro tracks above it for the first time in India.
Marveling at the intricate civil engineering design, the Chief Minister instructed metro authorities and contractors to maintain rigorous safety standards and accelerate construction timelines to prevent commuting disruptions. Once commissioned, this critical transit link will seamlessly connect southern suburbs with core commercial corridors, dramatically cutting travel times and providing smooth urban transit for thousands of daily office-goers and airport travelers. The project integrates advanced structural techniques to span busy arterial roadways without interrupting ground-level vehicular traffic.
Stalin emphasized that world-class mass rapid transit infrastructure forms the backbone of sustainable modern urban centers. He affirmed that the government will ensure prompt completion to modernize public transport across Chennai.
