Sanskrit gets the crores; Tamil and other South Indian languages get nothing but crocodile tears.

போலிப் பாசம் தமிழுக்கு; பணமெல்லாம் சமஸ்கிருதத்துக்கு!

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin criticized the Union government's discriminatory language policy, pointing out that hundreds of crores of public tax money are lavished on promoting Sanskrit while ancient classical languages like Tamil and other southern languages receive negligible fiscal support. Stalin remarked that central leaders frequently profess admiration for Tamil heritage in public speeches, but their national budgets reveal nothing more than hollow lip service and institutional neglect toward living languages spoken by millions.

The Chief Minister highlighted official budgetary disclosures demonstrating a profound imbalance in central language development allocations. While Sanskrit institutions and academies receive lavish annual central subsidies running into hundreds of crores, classical Tamil research centers, university chairs, and literary digitization initiatives struggle with meager fractional allocations. Stalin argued that this deliberate disparity reflects a continuous ideological project to elevate one favored language at the cost of India's linguistic diversity.

Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model governance will persistently resist linguistic hierarchy and demand constitutional parity for all scheduled languages. He pledged that Tamil Nadu will aggressively fund Tamil literary research, digital linguistics, and archaeological preservation from its own resources.
