Commemorating Educational Development Day on the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin honored the visionary leader whose introduction of free midday meals revolutionized school attendance and social equity. Stalin observed that Kamaraj did not merely serve food in classrooms, but laid the indelible pedagogical bedrock for a century of mass literacy and upward social mobility across Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister pointed out the historical good fortune that retrogressive critics—who cynically questioned whether schools should function as dining halls—did not succeed in sabotaging Kamaraj's revolutionary nutrition policy. Stalin drew a direct ideological parallel to his administration's pioneering Chief Minister's Breakfast Scheme, which currently provides nutritious morning meals to over seventeen lakh primary school children statewide. He emphasized that hunger should never obstruct a child's cognitive development or fundamental right to educational advancement.
Stalin concluded that public investments in child nutrition, foundational learning, and equitable classroom infrastructure have elevated Tamil Nadu into a national educational powerhouse. He pledged that the Dravidian Model administration will continually expand student welfare programs to realize Kamaraj's dream of universal education.
