Inaugurating the centenary memorial hall of pioneering Dalit leader and parliamentarian L. Elayaperumal in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid glowing tributes to the veteran reformer's lifelong struggle against caste oppression. Stalin recalled that Elayaperumal rebelled against discriminatory two-tumbler systems during his school days and persistently challenged institutional prejudice while serving in the Indian Army. He highlighted that the historic recommendations submitted by the Elayaperumal Committee provided the foundational framework for national anti-untouchability legislation, the Prevention of Atrocities Act, and progressive temple archaka reforms.
The Chief Minister asserted that constructing the memorial hall on the very soil of Chidambaram where Elayaperumal organized monumental struggles for Dalit emancipation honors the state's historical debt to social reformers. Joined by leaders of diverse alliance parties, Stalin reaffirmed that the Dravidian Model governance remains steadfastly anchored in Ambedkarite principles of equality and human dignity. He expressed resolute confidence that persistent political struggle and inclusive state policies will systematically eradicate social hierarchies.
Stalin concluded that Tamil Nadu will never compromise on anti-caste values. He reiterated that achieving an egalitarian, casteless society represents the ultimate objective of the Dravidian movement.
