Commemorating Tamil Nadu Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted the historic significance of July 18, 1967, when the pioneering DMK administration led by Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai officially renamed Madras State as Tamil Nadu. Stalin recalled that the historic resolution passed by the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly fulfilled an enduring cultural aspiration cherished by Tamils for centuries. He invoked the momentous parliamentary scene where Arignar Anna declared the name Tamil Nadu thrice, greeted by thunderous applause from elected legislators.
The Chief Minister emphasized that assuming the name Tamil Nadu permanently redefined the political identity and geographic dignity of the southern state. Stalin observed that the historic decision symbolized the emergence of regional linguistic pride, self-respect, and autonomous democratic governance. He noted that the DMK's assumption of power in 1967 altered the political trajectory of the state, placing cultural assertion, social justice, and constitutional federalism at the center of public life.
Stalin reaffirmed his administration's determination to uphold the visionary ideals articulated by Anna. He concluded that preserving Tamil linguistic heritage and safeguarding state autonomy remain foundational to Dravidian governance across generations.
