Highlighting the socio-economic empowerment generated by the Vidiyal Payanam initiative, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin reflected on how the zero-fare bus travel scheme has shattered financial and social barriers that previously confined underprivileged women to their households. Stalin recalled that prior to the scheme's introduction, the recurring expense of daily transit forced many women to abandon educational pursuits, employment opportunities, and personal aspirations due to acute household budget constraints.
The Chief Minister detailed that across fifty-one months of Dravidian Model governance, female beneficiaries have collectively realized individual savings of up to fifty thousand rupees through free bus transit. Stalin emphasized that state expenditures allocated toward subsidizing public transportation for women represent an enlightened developmental investment in gender equity, female financial autonomy, and labor force participation rather than a conventional administrative expenditure.
Stalin noted that increased mobility has transformed women's economic agency and daily confidence, enabling them to commute safely and securely for higher education, formal employment, and independent self-employment. He affirmed that his administration will persistently champion gender-transformative social welfare programs that meaningfully empower working women and female students across all sections of Tamil society.
