The interview by the #CEC is raising more questions than providing answers to the issues highlighted by the #INDIA bloc.

The following questions arise:

https://t.co/yN3OFgzEbk can there be so many deletions of eligible voters when house-to-house enumeration was undertaken?

2.The enrolment of new voters is abnormally low. Were these young voters enumerated? Has any database been compiled to show how many youngsters who turned 18 on the qualifying date were included?

3.The procedure for enquiry and two appeals, along with their timelines as contemplated under the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960, may exclude a huge number of voters in the forthcoming elections in Bihar. Is the ECI going to address this issue?

4.Will the #ECI take these practical difficulties into account while conducting #SIR in other States?

5.On 17/07/2025, we requested the ECI to delete the names of deceased voters from the rolls by undertaking the exercise contemplated in its 01/05/2025 notification. When will this be done?

6.What prevents the ECI from enlisting Aadhaar as one of the acceptable documents to prove a voter’s claim?

7.If “Fair Elections” is truly the aim of the ECI, why can’t it be more transparent and voter-friendly?

Editorial context

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed seven pointed, evidence-based queries to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, asserting that his recent media interview generated deeper public skepticism rather than resolving serious issues flagged by the opposition INDIA alliance. Stalin questioned how extensive voter deletions could occur after official house-to-house enumeration, highlighting that the enrollment of young citizens turning eighteen remains abnormally suppressed without published official demographic verification data.

The Chief Minister raised urgent concerns regarding the rigid timelines mandated under the Registration of Electors Rules of 1960 for inquiries and sequential appeals, warning that cumbersome bureaucratic procedures threaten to disenfranchise vast swathes of marginalized voters in the upcoming Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. Stalin further demanded clarity on whether these procedural hurdles would be resolved before conducting Special Intensive Revisions (SIR) across other states.

Stalin urged the Election Commission of India to implement pending requests to purge deceased voters and allow Aadhaar as an acceptable verifying credential. He concluded that genuine commitment to free and fair elections demands uncompromised administrative transparency, complete institutional impartiality, and genuine voter-friendly accessibility for all citizens.
