Delivering a keynote address at the National Seminar on Union–State Relations, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin warned that centralizing power in New Delhi creates an unnatural administrative swelling rather than genuine national strength or healthy economic development. Stalin asserted that in a subcontinental nation defined by profound linguistic, cultural, and geographic diversity, constitutional federalism and robust state autonomy must serve as the non-negotiable structural foundation of the Indian Republic.
The Chief Minister traced the DMK's historic leadership in constitutional reform, recalling that the party demanded constitutional amendments in its maiden election manifesto, instituted the landmark Rajamannar Committee in 1969, and passed the historic State Autonomy Resolution in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly in 1974. Stalin highlighted that the high-level committee established by his administration under former Supreme Court Judge Kurian Joseph will delineate the future constitutional roadmap for the entire country.
Stalin concluded that Tamil Nadu's ongoing struggle for decentralized federalism will guide all Indian states in reclaiming their constitutional rights. He reiterated that his government will tirelessly champion constitutional democratic devolution, state financial autonomy, and genuine cooperative federalism against centralizing overreach.
