Marking a historic milestone in professional media education, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin inaugurated the Chennai Institute of Journalism (CIJ), South India's premier autonomous journalism school established with direct state financial backing. Addressing media leaders, faculty, and newly enrolled students from diverse districts across Tamil Nadu, Stalin highlighted that the state-sponsored institution democratizes access to professional media education across the country by charging annual tuition fees more than ten times lower than commercial private journalism academies.
The Chief Minister emphasized that robust, independent, and ethical journalism constitutes the fourth pillar indispensable for sustaining a vibrant constitutional democracy. Stalin stated that by establishing a world-class training center accessible to students from underprivileged rural backgrounds, the Dravidian Model government is actively fostering diverse, socially conscious voices within mainstream broadcasting and print media.
Stalin warmly congratulated the inaugural batch of students, encouraging them to master advanced journalistic technologies while upholding factual truth, ethical integrity, and social justice. He concluded by thanking senior journalists and editors from leading media houses for attending the launch, seeking their continued professional mentorship to guide young graduates in ethical public service journalism throughout the state.
