Periyar goes global!
“Oppression is my enemy” the rallying cry of Periyar now resonates at #Oxford.
Marking the centenary of the #SelfRespect Movement, I will unveil Thanthai Periyar's portrait at the University of Oxford on 4th September and release two books that chronicle its hundred year journey and living legacy.
Before an assembly of international scholars, the movement that set ablaze caste tyranny and burned down barriers of gender in Tamil Nadu will be placed in dialogue with struggles worldwide for dignity, equality and freedom.
#Periyar’s ideals of equality are not bounded by borders, they belong to humanity as a whole.

Celebrating the global resonance of the Dravidian rationalist movement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that he will participate in the centenary seminar of the Self-Respect Movement at the University of Oxford on September 4. Highlighting Thanthai Periyar's rallying battle cry that oppression is the ultimate enemy, Stalin declared that the radical social reformer belongs not merely to Tamil Nadu, but to all humanity striving for emancipation, universal human dignity, and equality.
The Chief Minister shared that during his Oxford engagement, he will formally unveil a commemorative portrait of Thanthai Periyar and release two significant academic volumes chronicling the transformative hundred-year trajectory and living legacy of the Self-Respect Movement. Stalin noted that presenting Periyar's philosophy before an international gathering of scholars will initiate a vital dialogue between Tamil Nadu's historic anti-caste movement and global struggles for human rights.
Stalin concluded that Periyar's core axiom that all human beings are equal by birth transcends regional boundaries and historical eras. He affirmed that the Dravidian Model governance will persistently propagate rationalist thought, social justice, and gender equality across international academic forums.
