#SelfRespectMovement - A revolution that redefined freedom! Chains fell, dignity rose!
Thanthai Periyar’s Self-Respect Movement shattered fundamentalisms, awakened dignity, nurtured scientific temper, and made us a guiding light of social transformation.
At #Oxford, I spoke with pride as an heir to #Periyar’s legacy, honouring the revolution that turned centuries of subjugation into the eternal anthem of #SelfRespect.
We aren’t just celebrating history; we are guiding tomorrow.

Addressing a distinguished international gathering of academics, researchers, and students at Oxford University, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered a historic keynote lecture commemorating the centenary of Thanthai Periyar's Self-Respect Movement. Stalin proclaimed that the Self-Respect Movement was a non-violent revolution that redefined human freedom, shattering religious fundamentalism, awakening individual self-worth, cultivating scientific temper, and establishing Tamil Nadu as an enduring global model of social transformation and inclusive democracy.
Speaking as an ideological heir to Periyar's legacy, the Chief Minister emphasized that standing within the halls of Oxford—a millennium-old seat of global learning—to champion a movement born out of the struggles of oppressed communities was deeply symbolic. Stalin explained that by dismantling caste supremacy and patriarchal oppression through rationalist public discourse, the Dravidian movement successfully translated marginalized aspirations into democratic electoral mandates and institutional governance.
Stalin asserted that the Self-Respect Movement is not merely a chapter of historical celebration, but a vital philosophical guide for confronting contemporary global inequalities. He concluded that embracing Periyar's rationalist vision of universal brotherhood, social equity, and scientific inquiry will illuminate humanity's collective journey toward an emancipated future.
