Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dedicated the expanded Chembarambakkam water distribution infrastructure to the public, inaugurating an additional supply of two hundred and sixty-five million liters per day of potable drinking water for the Chennai metropolitan region. Stalin stated that delivering high-quality, dependable drinking water to every household fulfills an explicit governance commitment made by the Dravidian Model administration to enhance urban public health and civic welfare.
Executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, the augmented distribution grid will directly benefit more than twenty lakh citizens residing across Chennai municipal zones—including Ambattur, Anna Nagar, Teynampet, Kodambakkam, Valasaravakkam, Alandur, and Adyar—along with expanding coverage to suburban areas including Kundrathur in Tambaram Corporation and Sriperumbudur municipality. The expanded supply eliminates chronic seasonal shortages across western and southern metropolitan corridors.
The Chief Minister affirmed that comprehensive water security requires farsighted infrastructure investments that anticipate urban population growth and climate unpredictability. Stalin concluded that sustained capital investments in reservoir rejuvenation, desalination infrastructure, modern treatment plants, and piped distribution networks will guarantee long-term drinking water resilience and equitable utility access for all Chennai residents.
