Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound sorrow over the tragic industrial accident at the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited thermal power project site in Ennore, where nine construction workers hailing from Assam lost their lives. Offering his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, Stalin stated that the untimely demise of interstate migrant workers engaged in critical state infrastructure development represents a deeply painful loss for the entire administration.

Responding swiftly to the industrial emergency, the Chief Minister deputed Electricity Minister S.S. Sivasankar and TANGEDCO Chairman Rajesh Lakhoni to proceed immediately to the disaster location, coordinate rescue operations, and oversee hospital treatment for injured personnel. He instructed senior administrative officials to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into safety protocols and identify any mechanical or procedural lapses that led to the fatal structural collapse.

Stalin announced an ex-gratia financial relief of ten lakh rupees each for the families of the deceased workers from the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund. He also directed state authorities to make all necessary logistics arrangements to transport the mortal remains of the deceased workers to their native villages in Assam with full institutional care and dignity.
