Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that Coimbatore's landmark ten-kilometer elevated corridor on Avinashi Road will be named after celebrated industrialist and inventor G.D. Naidu. Stalin pointed out that while the ambitious infrastructure initiative was originally announced in 2020, only five percent of the physical construction work had been executed by the time the Dravidian Model government assumed office in May 2021.
Taking executive ownership of the stalled public project, the state administration accelerated engineering schedules and allocated one thousand seven hundred and ninety-one crore rupees to execute the remaining ninety-five percent of structural work swiftly. Stalin stated that opening this elevated expressway fulfills an urgent civic demand, resolving persistent gridlock along Avinashi Road and unlocking regional transit efficiency for Coimbatore's bustling commercial core.
Honoring G.D. Naidu as the 'Edison of India' and a committed ideological companion of Thanthai Periyar, Stalin remarked that the naming honors the innovator's scientific legacy. He noted that naming state infrastructure after regional icons reinforces collective pride and historical memory. Stalin concluded that high-speed transit infrastructure represents the government's resolve to deliver transformative civic development on time.
