Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that the state government will constitute an independent commission headed by retired Madras High Court Judge K.N. Basha to recommend effective legislative and administrative measures to prevent caste-based killings. Stalin expressed profound anguish over recurring incidents of violence fueled by caste prejudice, stating that bigotry blinds reason and inflicts grievous wounds on civilized society.
The one-man judicial commission will examine the socio-economic and institutional factors contributing to caste violence and formulate comprehensive policy interventions. These recommendations will guide law enforcement agencies in strengthening witness protection, expediting criminal investigations, instituting stringent deterrent penalties, and establishing community-level mediation and safety protocols for inter-caste couples. Stalin stated that safeguarding human lives and upholding constitutional rights remain paramount duties of the Dravidian Model government.
Reaffirming his administration's steadfast commitment to social equality, Stalin emphasized that caste dominance has no place in a modern, democratic society. He noted that the state government will act decisively upon the commission's forthcoming findings to eradicate caste violence, protect marginalized communities, and guarantee every citizen the liberty to live with dignity and safety across Tamil Nadu.
