Chief Minister M.K. Stalin showcased the comprehensive ecological restoration and aesthetic enhancement of Tholkappiya Poonga in Chennai, revitalized under the Dravidian Model government. Originally conceived and established by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, the wetland park serves as a serene ecological sanctuary that provides city residents with a natural retreat from the rapid pace of urban life.
Stalin observed that restoring urban wetland ecosystems is essential for enhancing biodiversity, cooling the city's micro-climate, and providing recreational open spaces for public wellness. The revamped park features restored estuarine water bodies, thriving mangrove vegetation, indigenous tree plantations, and pedestrian-friendly walking tracks designed to offer physical and mental rejuvenation. He emphasized that such environmental projects preserve sensitive coastal ecosystems while offering citizens scenic, clean, and family-friendly community spaces.
Pledging to expand similar ecological projects throughout Chennai and adjacent suburbs, Stalin stated that the administration is actively adorning the capital with vibrant green blankets. He reaffirmed that balancing rapid infrastructural growth with proactive environmental preservation remains a cornerstone of the state's comprehensive urban development vision, ensuring sustainable living environments for current and future generations.
