Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commended young weightlifter Maharajan Arumugapandian from Kovilpatti on clinching two silver medals at the Asian Youth Games 2025. Expressing immense pride in the young athlete's international triumph, Stalin observed that while Kovilpatti is traditionally celebrated for its traditional sweets and hockey heritage, Arumugapandian's remarkable feat has earned the southern town a distinguished place on the international weightlifting map.
The Chief Minister received the encouraging news while visiting Kovilpatti to unveil a statue of late Dravidian patriarch and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin described the coincidence as a source of double joy, symbolizing the inspiring convergence of regional leadership memories with contemporary youth achievements. He assured the medalist that the Dravidian Model administration will extend full institutional sponsorship, specialized coaching support, and advanced training equipment for his future sporting journey.
Stalin affirmed that nurturing grassroots athletic potential across semi-urban and rural areas remains a central priority of the state sports department. He reiterated that comprehensive government backing will empower Tamil Nadu's youth to overcome financial barriers, excel in international tournaments, and bring global laurels to the nation.
