Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin convened a consultative meeting of forty-nine political parties in Chennai, securing unanimous backing to legally challenge the Election Commission of India's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls before the Supreme Court. The assembly resolved that conducting such an intensive enumeration exercise in haste right before the 2026 general elections undermines democratic transparency. Stalin had formally requested the election authority to conduct revisions after the assembly polls to prevent wrongful deletions, a reasonable demand that authorities failed to concede.
Addressing allied and opposition delegates, Stalin thanked party representatives for defending civic enfranchisement. He expressed deep alarm that hurried revisions could disenfranchise lakhs of eligible citizens, specifically vulnerable groups, as witnessed during similar hasty administrative operations in other northern states. Stalin argued that constitutional safeguards demand meticulous, error-free voter lists prepared without artificial deadlines or administrative pressure.
Stalin urged parties absent from the conference to reconsider their positions and actively organize local booth audits to defend citizens' franchise. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will resist electoral distortions through united judicial appeals and sustained grassroots public vigilance.
