Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally flagged off a brand-new fleet of technologically upgraded buses for the state transport corporations, significantly enhancing daily commuter capacity across rural, intercity, and metropolitan corridors. The ceremony marked another milestone in the government's phased modernization program to replace aging vehicles with energy-efficient, passenger-friendly, and environmentally compliant transit options.
The new buses feature ergonomically designed interiors, emergency panic buttons, GPS-based vehicle tracking systems, and low-floor accessibility features for senior citizens and disabled passengers. Stalin stated that public transport serves as an economic lifeline for millions of students, working women, and everyday laborers, necessitating continuous state investment despite operational financial challenges facing state transit corporations.
Highlighting the overwhelming success of the zero-fare bus travel scheme for women, the Chief Minister reiterated that affordable, modern mobility drives inclusive socioeconomic development and women's workforce participation. He directed transport officials to optimize routes based on commuter density and ensure punctual, safe services, reaffirming that Tamil Nadu's public transit network remains an exemplary national benchmark for accessibility and affordability.
He reiterated that modern transit fleets will continue expanding to serve commuters reliably throughout every rural and urban constituency.
