In any democracy, institutions may be bent or captured by those in power, but the press must remain the force that keeps democracy alive.

On #NationalPressDay, I commend every journalist who refuses to bow to the authoritarianism of the Union BJP government and continues to expose its failures, its acts of corruption and its deceit with courage.

Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin distributed modern safety kits, protective uniforms, and financial welfare assistance to municipal sanitation workers, reaffirming his administration's deep institutional commitment to labor dignity and worker welfare. Stalin praised sanitation personnel as frontline custodians of public health, noting that their tireless labor maintains hygiene and disease prevention across all urban and rural local bodies in Tamil Nadu.

The welfare distribution was organized under the newly established Sanitation Workers Welfare Board, an initiative launched to guarantee comprehensive healthcare screenings, accidental insurance coverage, and educational scholarships for workers' children. Stalin noted that mechanized cleaning equipment has been procured extensively to replace manual hazard points, ensuring technological upgrades protect sanitation staff from hazardous exposures.

Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister stressed that social respect and economic security are inseparable rights of the working class. He instructed municipal authorities to strictly enforce safety guidelines, eliminate delayed wage disbursements, and ensure immediate medical support, pledging that the Dravidian Model governance will continually elevate the living standards and social status of sanitation workers across the entire state.

He concluded that safeguarding sanitation workers' well-being remains an indispensable moral priority for the administration.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
