Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin opened 776 housing units under the Chief Minister's Urban Housing Scheme, built for people who had previously been living along roadsides and canal banks in North Chennai, as part of the state government's North Chennai Development Scheme. He said the housing complex was built with quality infrastructure facilities, including a library, an open-air amphitheater, a gymnasium, a fair-price shop, an anganwadi (childcare) centre, and CCTV surveillance. Stalin described the project as an example of progress for economically disadvantaged residents under the ruling 'Dravidian Model' government. He also began construction work on 144 additional housing units in the Wall Tax Road area of North Chennai. The initiative forms part of the state's broader urban housing and slum rehabilitation efforts targeting residents of informal roadside and canal-bank settlements in the northern part of the city.
