Ahead of Language Martyrs Tribute Day public meetings, M.K. Stalin said the events would serve as a pledge to defeat what he called an alliance hostile to Tamil identity and language, and announced he would deliver a speech in Kanchipuram on January 25, invoking DMK founder Arignar Anna and social reformer Periyar.

Ahead of a series of public meetings marking Language Martyrs Tribute Day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin said the gatherings were meant both to honour the memory of those who died in anti-Hindi-imposition agitations and to warn opponents that the Dravidian movement remained ready to resist any attempt to curtail Tamil language rights. He credited the historical language agitation, led in the tradition of social reformer Periyar, with driving out compulsory Hindi and establishing a two-language policy in Tamil Nadu. Stalin announced he would deliver a speech on January 25 in Kanchipuram, the birthplace of DMK founder Arignar Anna. He called on party cadres to honour the martyrs and work toward what he termed a 'Dravidian Model 2.0.'
