TNLA_Resolution: #Withdraw_VBGRAMG #Restore_MGNREGA!

The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly passed a resolution moved by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin demanding the withdrawal of the Union Government's new rural employment scheme, referred to as VBGRAMG, and the restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA). Stalin argued that the renamed scheme was not a genuine employment guarantee but a plan that would harm rural livelihoods, alleging that the Union Government had delayed release of MGNREGA funds and was now shifting 40% of the scheme's funding burden onto state governments through the new programme. He noted that 85% of MGNREGA's beneficiaries are women and said the scheme, named after Mahatma Gandhi, should continue in its original form. Stalin also asked in the Assembly whether the state's Leader of the Opposition, who had gone to welcome the Prime Minister, would raise this issue with him out of concern for the people.
