M.K. Stalin criticized the Union Budget 2026 for what he called continued neglect of Tamil Nadu, alleging no new schemes were announced for the state and that pending Jal Jeevan Mission and education funds were also left out. He called it a disappointing budget for Tamil Nadu.

Reacting to the Union Budget 2026, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin accused the BJP-led Union government of once again neglecting Tamil Nadu, saying the state received no new schemes in the budget. He further claimed that funds long due to Tamil Nadu under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the Union government's rural piped drinking water scheme, and for education were also missing from the budget. Stalin noted sarcastically that even the customary quotation from the Thirukkural, traditionally included in budget speeches, was absent this time. He remarked that when Tamil Nadu asked for next year's budget allocations, it appeared to have been given something resembling a five-year plan instead, concluding overall that the Union Budget 2026 was a 'betrayal budget' for Tamil Nadu, using the hashtag #NDABetraysTN.
