Editorial context

Marking International Mother Language Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid tribute to the Tamil language, describing it as one for which many gave their lives to protect. He praised those who set to music certain lines written by former Chief Minister and DMK leader Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi celebrating the joy of calling the language simply 'Tamil.' Stalin called on Tamils across the world to take responsibility for preserving the language and passing it on to future generations in a flourishing state. The message was posted under the hashtag 'InternationalMotherLanguageDay' and carried no policy announcement or governmental decision, functioning as a cultural and sentimental tribute to the Tamil language.
