Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin marked progress in the state's Model Schools initiative, which began in 2021-22 covering 10 educationally backward districts and has since expanded to all 38 districts, with each school built at a cost of Rs 50 crore and equipped with hostel facilities for 800 students. According to Stalin, over the past four years 2,358 students from government and model schools, plus 206 students from Adi Dravidar and tribal welfare schools, have gone on to pursue higher studies in 93 leading institutions across 50 academic fields, including 41 in IITs and 22 studying abroad on full scholarships. He added that 448 students from government and model schools, including 68 from Adi Dravidar and tribal schools, have cleared the first stage of this year's IIT entrance process. The post credited the state's education policy, tagged as the 'Dravidian Model' of governance, with enabling first-generation learners to access elite higher education.
