Chief Minister M.K. Stalin detailed measures his Dravidian Model government has taken to support Sri Lankan Tamil refugees living in Tamil Nadu, saying the state has been providing them permanent housing. He said that over three academic years, 5,771 students from these refugee families had received higher education scholarships totalling Rs 11.07 crore, and that the government also provides funding and skill development training to their self-help groups to support their livelihoods. Stalin said that since these refugees have lived on Indian soil for a long time, they rightfully deserve citizenship, and expressed hope that the Union government would grant it to them swiftly. He said the state's voice would continue to speak up for these Tamil relatives from Sri Lanka until that citizenship demand is met, framing it as an ongoing appeal to the central government.
