Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced that former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam had joined the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), welcoming him warmly into what he called the 'mother party' of the Dravidian movement. Stalin noted that Panneerselvam carries the name of a major Dravidian movement leader and has now joined the DMK's efforts to protect Dravidian movement principles. He characterized the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly election as a democratic battle between Tamil Nadu and what he termed the 'fascist' BJP, saying various democratic forces were uniting within the DMK-led alliance for this reason. Stalin described Panneerselvam as an affectionate, cultured, and humble person and said his joining was a welcome development, expressing hope for Tamil Nadu's victory in the coming election.
