DMK: The Development Engine!

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin presented data comparing housing construction achievements between his government and the previous AIADMK administration, through the state's Urban Habitat Development Board, which he noted was originally established in 1970 by former Chief Minister Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi as the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board with the aim of a slum-free Tamil Nadu, and later renamed under his government. He said that during the 2016-21 AIADMK government, the Board built a total of 27,668 housing units across Chennai and other districts. Under his government, he said 30,167 units were built in Chennai alone and 46,207 in other districts, for a combined total of 76,374 units, with Chennai's figure alone exceeding the previous government's total statewide count. Stalin announced the launch of further housing project works, including a 700-flat 'Chief Minister's Urban Housing' complex, and said this rate of construction would multiply further going forward.
