Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed grief over the death of Siva Dileepan, a protester associated with the anti-Hindi-imposition movement who had jumped in front of a train during a demonstration against Hindi lettering and later succumbed despite intensive medical treatment. Stalin said enough lives had already been lost in the language struggle and appealed to activists, including Thirumurugan Gandhi of the May 17 Movement, to pursue peaceful, technology-enabled methods of protest rather than risking further lives. He said the fight against Hindi imposition must be won through wisdom, resolve and love for Tamil rather than further sacrifice, and extended condolences to Dileepan's wife, two daughters and family. The tweet ties the personal tragedy directly to the ongoing political dispute over Hindi imposition, using the hashtags #StopHindiImposition and #SaveTamilLives.
