Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M.K. Stalin claimed a major electoral win for the secular, progressive alliance in Madurai, describing 'peace, development, and harmony' as core to Tamil Nadu's character, in contrast to what he characterised as the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) association with 'violence, deceit and unrest.' He said the NDA had rejected various development projects proposed for Madurai, including a metro rail project, and predicted that Madurai's electorate would in turn reject the NDA at the polls. Stalin framed his government, which he calls the 'Dravidian Model,' as working to establish Madurai as the growth hub of southern Tamil Nadu, and said he sought public support on that basis. He added, referring to himself by his full name Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin, that Madurai's people had given him 'instant approval' for this request.
